About the Community Garden

Okeover Community Garden aims to be a creative and relaxing place on the University of Canterbury campus - a time and space out from work or study. Anyone is free to wander through the garden. For those wanting to get more involved, come along to our regular gardening time on Friday afternoon. No previous gardening experience is necessary, and volunteers get to take home their share of the fresh produce collected that day!

How it Started

The garden was established in 2002 by Kakariki Environment Club and UC’s Sustainability Advocate. It has been developed using permaculture principles and organic growing methods, and is an ongoing creation based on the time and interests of those involved each year.
