All students with interests in sustainability are encouraged to get active and join a campus-based club with relevant environmental and/or social interests. You can check out what they have to offer at Clubs Days at the start of each semester.

Engineers Without BordersEngineers Without Borders New Zealand is an organisation of professional and student engineers who share a vision to confront global challenges of poverty, sustainable development and social inequity by undertaking projects that will directly improve the quality of life in communities within New Zealand and in the South Pacific region. Kakariki Environment ClubKakariki, which means 'green' in Maori, is University of Canterbury's (UC) longest-standing environment club. Kakariki promotes and engages in environmental issues both on and off campus, organises and participates in events and activism in order to build a more socially just and environmentally sustainable campus and planet, and gives its members a space to meet and discuss issues of interest. The Potluck ClubThe Potluck Club is an informal group which will be open to all staff and students at the University of Canterbury (or friends of). UC BikeUC Bike is UC's home of all things MTB and road for that matter. Whatever type of riding you're into... they do downhill shuttle runs, cross country rides, bmx rides, urban/trials sessions, road rides and night cross country rides. They also run female-only rides for you girls that like it that way. The Port Hills, Mclean's Island, Bottle Lake, Cashmere Hills; Chch is the most awesome spot for riding so make the most of it! Roadtrips are also popular. Members get free use of tools & gear. All members get discounts at Beckenham Cycles (Chch's sweetest cycle store and right next to our Port Hills). UC Poverty and Fair Trade ClubThe Poverty and Fair Trade Club is a coalition of students focused on the reduction of global poverty. They focus on campaigning rather than fundraising. Campaigns focus on such things as increasing government aid, eliminating A.I.D.S/H.I.V., human rights, women’s rights, Fair Trade, and trade justice. They are not politically aligned or religious and work with a variety of organisations such as Oxfam and the Fair Trade Association. Contact: Sarah (charlie.fairy@gmail.com). |
