Research and Teaching

student waterways research

Currently, the waterways and their rehabilitation, particularly Okeover Stream, are used as topics for some student labs, undergraduate and post-graduate projects and theses in Geography, Biological Sciences, Forestry, and Natural Resources Engineering (Civil Engineering) departments. Research projects to date have explored aspects of stream ecology, restoration ecology, water chemistry, stormwater contaminants, GIS (geographic information systems) applications, and hydrology.

Staff and students from the School of Biological Sciences’ Freshwater Ecology Research Group (FERG) have been monitoring the invertebrate fauna in Okeover Stream since 1999.

Staff and students from the Department of Civil Engineering's Natural Resources Engineering programme monitor and study indepth stormwater contaminant issues in Okeover Stream and Avon River.
